A Time Is Coming

December is here! The market’s getting Christmassy, the Louth tree is up and we’re lighting the Advent candles in Eastgate, ready to celebrate the birth of our blessed Saviour, Jesus. As then, when God came into our world to change everything through the grace of His Son, December can still be a time that symbolises the old passing and the new beginning. It’s the final month of the year, and so a chance to look back at the year before and look forward to the year ahead.

Wherever you are on the pilgrimage of life, whether you're 18 or 80, a new Christian or seasoned, on a mountaintop or in a valley, the same stands true right now: a time is coming. For when you are in the hand of our living God, He always has a plan.

So, what does 2026 look like for you?

Some might receive this question with a blank look: the future seems foggy. Others may have a list of plans already set: holidays, career changes or the same comfortable pattern as this year.

My next question is: have you stopped and really asked God what 2026 looks like for you?

Ask God!

It's all too easy to make our own plans. Or sometimes, we might even be relying on God, but we’re only looking to the short-term. The truth, told in scripture, is that God has a plan for all of our lives. Every day, in fact. And sometimes, He's waiting for us to stop, ask Him, and listen.

‘I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.’ Psalm 32: 8, NKJV

‘Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.’ Proverbs 19: 21, ESV

‘The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.’ Proverbs 16: 9, ESV

'Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.' Psalm 139: 16, NKJV

God speaks!

When we look at the New Testament story of Jesus’ birth, we see God preparing people for the time to come and communicating with each of them in different ways. To Mary, He sent an angel. Joseph, He spoke in dreams. The wise men were given a sign: the star to follow.

Throughout the Bible, we see God preparing people for what’s ahead, again and again, from Noah building the ark, right through to John's vision in Revelation. And of course, Jesus Himself was foretold in prophecy throughout the Old Testament.

However God speaks to you - whether through scripture, signs, words, visions or anything else - the important thing is that we listen. God wants us to know His will for our lives. That way, we can fulfill His perfect plan, and fulfill it well.

‘For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.’ Ephesians 2:10, NKJV

Seek Him

God has something for all of us. So how about we ask Him? God’s word tells us that He will answer us, if we seek.

'Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives and he who seeks finds and to him who knocks it will be opened.' Matthew 7: 7-8, NKJV

‘However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.’ John 16: 13, NKJV

So together, let’s take some time out of the busy Christmas season to seek God in prayer and simply ask Him: Father, what's Your will for my life in 2026? Then, we wait on Him hopefully and faithfully to answer our prayers.

Join us for this Christmas blog series at EGU, a reflection on God’s will for our lives and what’s to come in the year ahead, as we celebrate the fulfillment of God’s great redemption plan through Jesus Christ, our King.

Next week, we'll ask: how do we prepare?

Happy December all! May God bless your 2026.

Love, Kim

A prayer

Father God,

We come to You with open hearts and open ears to ask, in hope, that You will speak to us about the time that is to come.

We pray, Lord, that You will reveal to us Your will for our lives.

Make our souls willing and our hearts trusting to hear You, through Your precious Holy Spirit.

Help us to give our time to seeking Your will over the coming weeks, and make us strong vessels to walk faithfully with Jesus, wherever You may lead.

Thank you, Father, for Your love.

In Jesus' name we pray.

Amen
